Information required for approval

We're excited to have your organization join the VolunteerMatch community!

Below you'll find a list of organizations welcome to join our network and the information required for approval. Please be prepared to provide at least one of the items listed below according to your organization classification, so we can successfully verify your information and approve your organization.

Note: Regardless of type, VolunteerMatch requires a website for each organization on the network that describes their mission, activities and contact info. Social Media sites will not be accepted and depending on the org we may also ask that you describe your volunteer program in detail. 

501(c)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7) and (8)

• A valid EIN that can be confirmed as associated with a federally tax-exempt 501(c) organization via the IRS database of exempt organizations. Requested during registration.
• A copy of the organization’s IRS determination letter confirming tax-exempt status. Requested via email after registration.

State Level Tax-Exempt Organization

• Link to Secretary of State’s website that confirms state level tax-exempt or nonprofit status. Requested via email after registration.
• Articles of Incorporation that classify organization as state level tax-exempt or nonprofit organization. Requested via email after registration.

Organization Applying for 501(c) Status

• A copy of acknowledgment letter from the IRS confirming that they have successfully applied for nonprofit status. Requested via email after registration.
• Email receipt from IRS 1023-EZ form plus EIN. Requested via email after registration.

Civic or Government Agency

• Administrator registering organization has a government email domain, e.g., ‘.gov’ or ‘.us’. Checked during registration.
• A document or link to a website confirming the agency’s government status. Requested via email after registration. 
  

Public or Private School

• Successful match via Greatschools.org. Checked during registration.
• A document or URL that confirms school is part of a county school district or is a legitimate private school. Requested via email after registration.

Public or Private University

• Administrator registering organization has a ‘.edu’ email address. Checked during registration.
• An EIN confirming tax-exempt status via the IRS database of exempt organization as many universities are 501(c)(3) organizations. Requested during registration.
  

For-Profit Healthcare Organization

• A copy of the organization’s state health department license to operate as a hospice, hospital or long-term care facility. Requested via email after registration.

Fiscally-sponsored Organizations

• EIN of sponsoring nonprofit and documentation of fiscal sponsorship agreement. Requested via email after registration.
