As you may have experienced, not all VolunteerMatch connections result in committed volunteers. While this might be frustrating, it is unfortunately the reality of an online service.
We have found that many volunteers who use our service make connections with multiple opportunities and organizations. "Shopping" for volunteer opportunities is a way for the volunteer to learn more about organizations in our network, the opportunities or events listed, and how they can best contribute their time. We have found that, on average, 25% of connections on VolunteerMatch result in successful ongoing volunteer relationships.
To maximize your recruiting efforts on VolunteerMatch, we recommend that you make your opportunity as detailed and comprehensive as possible. Tell potential volunteers up front about your organization's needs, how the volunteer can best be of service, the time commitment of the opportunity, and any special skills required to perform the tasks. The more volunteers know in advance, the less likely they will be to make a connection to your organization without an intent to follow through.
Again, while the suggestions above may help, keep in mind that not every connection will result in a dedicated volunteer. We hope your experience with VolunteerMatch is a positive and rewarding one!
